Wedding Seating Arrangements

Rosetone’s most popular hire jobs are chairs and tables (and linen) for weddings. We think a wedding seating plan will almost certainly help things run more smoothly. So, we thought we would help out those thinking about a seating plan with a blog post offering some styles and tips! A wedding seating plan is likely to make a significant difference to the success of your day. Guests are saved from the mad panic and disorganization of trying to find places to sit. You can also place people where you want them to sit. Keeping everyone happy and possibly avoiding any awkward drama of guests that may not see eye to eye! The wedding meal may last for 2-3 hours and is a significant part of the day. If your guests are sitting with people they get along with, it will make a big difference to their enjoyment of the day.

Mix it up: If you seat your guests in family groups, people won’t have the chance to mingle. On the other hand, seating people on tables where they know no one might not be a good idea either. Try to strike a balance, and bear in mind people's interests and ages.

Think about the singles: Guests who are attending with a partner are always seated together. However, most tables will often have an even number of places, this can be awkward with singles. Matchmaking might be a fun idea for you, but don't force it, or make it too obvious!

Male/female seating: If you're using round tables, then the usual seating assignment is to have males and females sitting alternately round the table. For long tables, have couples seated opposite each other. Along the length of the table you should still try to alternate males and females.

The closest tables: Always make sure that the tables that are closest to the Bride and Groom’s table are exclusively reserved for your nearest and dearest, friends and family. This is a tradition we think should stay.

Table Numbers: To simplify people finding their table, why not give each table a number. This saves people looking around for their table. Table numbers make it easier for your guests to locate their seats. Rosetone hire table numbers here. As an alterternative, some people like to have table names rather than table numbers. This is a great way to make it personal to you, as examples; football teams, celebrities, flowers etc. Adding a personal touch, and can also remove the perception of a hierarchy.

Place cards: Make sure you use clear name cards for your guests. This will also help them to find their seat quickly and easily. Including a few details such as whether they are vegetarian or not, is a great way to show your guests you care and can greatly help the waiting staff. Don't forget to give a copy of your seating plan to the staff as well in this case. 

Seating your guests at the reception:

Keep it relaxed and simple, this is where all your guests will be up and about, mingling, dancing, nibbling at the evening buffet and possibly have a few (or several) drinks! It's time for everyone to enjoy themselves not to stick to seating plans, push the table and chairs back and get up and boogie.
