Frequently asked questions - Refurbishment

Resprays & Re-upholstery

ORDERING & PAYMENT

When is the payment due?
Your payment is due once we have counted in the chairs for respraying and checked for any repairs. Repairs are priced before the work is carried out unless you give us permission to go straight ahead. We only charge a small cost for repairs and only repair chairs that are worth repairing.
Do you deliver and collect?
We do! Thanks to the fact we operate our own delivery fleet, we have a certain amount of flexibility with our delivery slots. We respray chairs from all over the UK and Europe and keep our transport costs as low as possible.
Do you respray and re-upholster the furniture in the UK?
All our respraying and re-upholstery is carried out in our Bedfordshire factory. is imported in the finest raw beech wood from the EU. This allows us to quality control all furniture and prepare to a high standard before spraying manually or with our robotic sprayer.
Can I request a different frame finish?
Yes. Due to the skills of our spraying team, we can take a solid colour chair such as White and change the colour to another solid colour such a Black. We are also able to respray a Limewash Chair that is looking tired and faded to bring it back to life with fresh Limewash coat of lacquers.

In addition to the finishes listed above, we can also spray your furniture in a bespoke colour (based on a sample you provide). This costs from as little as £3 per chair. There are hundreds to choose from – we’ll match any colour from RAL, Pantone or Farrow & Ball colour charts.

We can also match to your existing wood furniture – just send us a sample of the wood. With a combination of hand spraying and robotic sprayers, we only ever use the finest materials and fabrics from the UK and Europe, ensuring that quality is never in question.

FABRICS

What fabric options do you have available?
You’ll note that our chairs are designed in a mixture of fully upholstered, or semi-upholstered on the seat, back and sides.
Each is available in a choice of standard fabric colours. These are included in the cost of the chair which you’ll see displayed on the website.

If you would like to request a different fabric to match your colour scheme, we’re happy to accommodate this. Our bespoke range includes hundreds of different fabrics and colourways – or you can supply your own fabric. Prices for our bespoke range vary, so please contact us for a quote.

How durable is your fabric?

Our fabrics are all graded according to the universal rub test. The rub test – a special machine is used to repeatedly rub the fabric – simulates wear and tear caused by everyday use. Each fabric is assigned a ‘rub factor’.
A ‘double rub’ equates to one back and forth motion; currently, 3,000 double rubs is roughly equal to a year of regular use. You’ll see from our grades below that all our fabric has a life expectancy of many years’ use – from a minimum of 10 years upwards.

  • General contract upholstery – 30,000 to 50,000 double rubs
  • Heavy duty upholstery – 55,000 to 75,000 double rubs
  • Extreme wear upholstery – 80,000 to 100,000 double rubs
Are your fabrics flame retardant?
Yes. With strict regulations in the UK governing the safety of fabrics used to upholster contract furniture, we are very careful to comply in all areas, as laid out in the Furniture and Furnishings (Fire) (Safety) Regulations 1988.

This includes BS5852 Part 1 Source 0 (Cigarette) Ignition Source 1 (Match). All our fabrics can be treated to Source 5 (Crib 5) to meet hotel and leisure UK regulations.

If you require a copy of our flame retardancy certificates for your records, these can be supplied upon request.
